A free open house will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the International Bird Rescue center in San Pedro.
The family-friendly event will include tours of the facilities, meetups with staff to learn about the specialized care provided, and viewing stations to learn about rescue and rehabilitation and the release of injured and orphaned aquatic birds.
The center is located within Angels Gate Park, 3601 S. Gaffey St.
Topics featured for guests will include caring for baby birds, the harmful effects of marine debris, feather-wash demonstrations, and arts and crafts. The center’s new, limited-edition trading cards, created in collaboration with Oakland Zoo and featuring the key species the center cares for, will also be available.
Talks will include those by CEO JD Bergeron and Senior Director of Research and Veterinary Science Dr. Rebeca Duerr.
Bird rescue merchandise will also be available for purchase, including an exclusive brown pelican poster by artist John Van Hamersveld. Signed and unsigned posters will be rolled out for the first time at the open house before becoming available online.
