When August arrives, a month, by the way, that is still totally and fully summer, the countdowns rev up.
We’re learning how many days, nights, and hours are left to the season, how long it will be before the sun starts to set before 8 p.m., and all of the reasons why autumn is practically at the doorstep.
Fall, we love you, but summer shimmer is still our festive focus, and finding it for free is our glad-hearted goal.
Once again, Metro Art, that cultural powerhouse that brings so much goodness to Union Station, and KCRW, another potent powerhouse brimming with beautiful music-making, is going to deliver on the “free” and “let’s celebrate summer” front.
The night it is happening? Saturday, Aug. 15, smack dab in the middle of the last full month of summer, and the place? The legendary, high-ceiling’d, ultra-photographable Ticket Concourse, a movie star in its own right (yep, that’s where the 93rd Oscars were just over five years ago, along with other spots around the station).
KCRW Summer Nights with Metro Art will welcome RIO KOSTA, along with KCRW DJs J.Rocc and LUXXURY, to the tune-packed evening, which is open to all ages.
And, as always, this totally free, stow-your-cash, so very complimentary festivity is a basically a show-up-and-enjoy kind of event. With one note: You’ll want to RSVP, so organizers know to expect you.
Art exhibitions will be up and around, so check them out, and sips and food will be available for purchase around the landmark, including at everywhere, the brewery that recently set up shop in the historical Fred Harvey space.
Don’t let summer go just yet: There are still pay-nothing parties of the Saturday evening variety to savor, and savor them, we shall, especially when we can arrive by Metro.
