OAKLAND, Maine (WGME) — A juvenile allegedly set a house in Oakland on fire while seven people were inside sleeping.
A juvenile boy has been charged with arson in connection with a fire at a home on Libby Hill Road on July 26.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office said it appeared the fire started in a child’s bedroom, causing significant damage to the second floor of the house.
At the time of the fire, there were seven people sleeping inside the home.
Working smoke alarms alerted somebody inside, allowing everyone to escape without injuries.
Following an investigation, authorities determined the fire was intentionally set.
The boy was arrested on Tuesday and was taken to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland where he is currently being held.
