First of kind charging stations for e-bikes and scooters are unveiled in SCUSD
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
After a very quick countdown of three-two-one, a ribbon-cutting officially unveiled a significant first within the Sacramento City Unified School District on Wednesday morning.
Two solar-powered, micro-mobility charging stations are now in place on the campus of Hiram Johnson High School that will allow students to charge e-bikes and scooters during the school day.
The new stations are the result of a partnership between SCUSD, SMUD and CALSTART.
They build upon SMUD’s Clean Energy Vision.
“One way to participate in that is to get people to take alternative modes of transportation, not taking a gas car. The best way to start that is when they are this age. An easy and accessible way to not only park their bike, but charge it as well,” said Kevin Burdick, SMUD’s partnership specialist.
The Sacramento City Unified School District, including Hiram Johnson, begin their new school year neat week.
