Authorities are investigating the death of a Bakersfield man whose body was discovered Tuesday evening in a water canal near Golf Course Road and Mifflin Lane west of Taft.
According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, Jonathan Philip Roberts, 50, of Bakersfield, was found unresponsive in the canal near the entrance to Buena Vista Golf Course Tuesday evening.
He was pronounced deceased at 8:06 p.m.
The incident has been classified as a death investigation. Sheriff’s officials said the exact date and time of the incident remain unknown.
A postmortem examination will be conducted by the Kern County Coroner’s Office to determine the official cause and manner of death.
At this time, investigators have not released additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding Roberts’ death. The investigation remains ongoing.
