Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection is generally held the second and fourth Saturday of each month, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Public Services Facility, located at 101 B Avenue, and is available to Coronado residents only. No business or contractor-generated waste is permitted. Please have your driver’s license handy for a residence check, and wait in your vehicle for one of the collectors to assist you.

If the gates are closed, please do not illegally dump hazardous waste outside the gate. This is a severe danger to the health and safety of our residents, employees, and the environment.

Saturday, August 8, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Saturday, August 22, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Currently, we are not accepting medical waste or prescription drugs at our HHW collection events. You may drop off all medical waste at the secure drop-off location at the Coronado Police Station, at 700 Orange Avenue, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The purpose of the HHW program is to provide safe and convenient disposal of items that should not be mixed with the regular trash.

Household products containing toxic chemicals become hazardous waste when you decide to dispose of them. Never throw hazardous products in the trash, as the toxic chemicals may harm the environment and sanitation workers, and start fires in trash trucks. Never pour hazardous products into a sink or storm drain. It is dangerous, and they will end up in our environment, polluting the air, water, and soil. The City of Coronado’s HHW program is available so that all residents in the community can safely dispose of their toxic, hazardous waste.

Do not bring Bio-Hazardous (red bag) Waste, Controlled Substances, Explosives, Radioactive Materials, Marine and Road Flares, or Business Waste. To inquire about the disposal of these items, call San Diego County Hazardous Materials Division.

Also, do not bring appliances (washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, AC units) or mattresses. For these items, please contact EDCO’s customer service line at (619) 287-7555 for bulky waste pickup (fees may apply) or take advantage of the bulky waste pickup events that occur twice yearly, once in Spring and one in Fall. For 2025, these events will occur on the weeks of May 12 and October 13.

Leave all products in their original containers. Do not consolidate them. Make sure containers are properly sealed and not leaking. Put the containers in the trunk or back of your vehicle, away from passengers. Do not transport more than 15 gallons of any liquid or 125 lbs. of solids at one time.
