San Francisco is the global capital of wearable tech, so it made sense for Oura, whose rings have become the hottest tech fashion craze since Allbirds, to have an office here. Once it did, its leaders liked it so much that they couldn’t stand to rent anymore.
It started with a fortuitously timed lease. When Oura was shopping for a larger space last year, fintech company Blend was winding down its lease at 500 Pine St.
Tucked between downtown’s most recognizable skyscrapers, the nearly 50,000-square-foot property is the newest development in the northern Financial District and unlike anything around it: In a forest of towers, it stands at just five stories.
That enabled Oura to take the entire building rather than share with other tenants. The company, founded in Finland, had just raised nearly $1 billion but was looking to grow its physical footprint modestly, having previously leased less than 10,000 square feet a few blocks away.
