“High temperatures of 102 to 108 degrees and low temperatures of 65 to 75 expected, with Moderate to Major HeatRisk,” can be anticipated according to the NWS. “The heat is expected to peak on Saturday, with Major HeatRisk. Hottest temperatures expected in the northern Sacramento Valley.”
“Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses, especially anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration,” states the NWS.
This advisory is in effect until Sunday at 10 p.m.
NWS Heat Wave Safety Advice: Protect yourself with these recommendations Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids.Seek shelter: Stay indoors in an air-conditioned room to keep cool.Stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.Child and pet welfare: Never forget to safeguard young children and pets by not leaving them unattended in vehicles, especially during scorching weather when car interiors can become life-threateningly hot.Exercise caution outdoors: If you work or spend time outside, take additional safety measures.Optimal Timing: When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.Familiarize yourself with warning signs: Know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.Stay cool with clothing: Select lightweight and loose-fitting outfits for enhanced comfort.
To minimize risks during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) advises incorporating frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. If someone experiences heat-related symptoms, promptly relocate them to a cool and shaded spot. In case of an emergency, dial 911.
