LOS ANGELES — An environmental state law, called the Plastic Pollution Prevention and Producer Responsibility Act, will fundamentally change how many industries across California operate — especially the food service industry.
The act was passed in 2022 and went into effect in January 2026. Producers have until January 2027 to submit a plan to the state of how they will reduce plastic in their products, which must then be implemented by 2032.
