NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — CSUN men’s soccer played the California Baptist Lancers to a 1-1 draw Saturday night at Matador Soccer Field in the Matadors’ first exhibition match of the fall.
 
Jorge Solorzano gave CSUN the early advantage, scoring in the 34th minute to put the Matadors ahead 1-0 at halftime. Solorzano’s goal was CSUN’s first strike of 2026 and came unassisted.
 
The Matadors held the lead through the opening stages of the second half before California Baptist pulled level in the 56th minute. Mustapha Khasim finished a pass from Matteo Costa to even the match at 1-1.
 
CSUN goalkeeper Dorian Drucks played the opening 45 minutes and kept the Lancers off the scoreboard, making no saves. Bryan Castaneda took over in goal to begin the second half and helped preserve the draw.

The Lancers generated 13 shots to CSUN’s four, including 11 attempts in the second half. California Baptist also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Matadors, however, put all four of their shots on target.

 

Kayvon Monfared registered two shots for CSUN, both of which on goal, while Enrique Pineda also put his lone attempt on frame.

On Jorge Solorzano’s goal: 

“It was a nice one for him to get going on the year. You know, it’s a shout-out to the 661. Solo represents Palmdale very well, and we’re proud of him. He’s a game changer.

 

On the overall first-half performance:

“It’s a typical first game where there’s a lot of wildness, a lot of testosterone, a lot of people not doing well with the ball and understanding what their offense is trying to do. You’ve got to remember that we’re only four days into practice. 

 

On what he takes into the next exhibition:

“We’ve got a lot to work on. I’m proud of the guys’ effort, but we’ve got a lot to work on. So, I’m excited about getting in the office tonight and tomorrow, getting practice ready, and improving this team, and watching our team go.”

CSUN returns to action in exhibition play against Cal State San Bernardino, Wednesday night at Matador Soccer Field. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
