The Astros are currently leading the American League West standings with a record of 60-58, but the Rangers are following closely behind, only trailing by 0.5 games. The Padres are sitting in third place in the National League West standings, trailing the first place Dodgers by 9.5 games. While much of the season remains, both teams will look to gain momentum with a strong weekend showing.

The teams opened their series on Friday night and the Astros walked away with a 6-3 victory on the road. The Padres bounced back on Saturday, however, playing to a narrow 3-2 victory with the support of their home fans behind them. Michael King took the win on the mound for San Diego, throwing for six innings and striking out six batters along the way.
Jackson Merrill led the San Diego offense to victory with his two RBIs. Merrill flew out in the bottom of the first, but that was enough to bring home Fernando Tatis Jr. He struck again in the bottom of the third, hitting his 17th home run of the season, a solo shot to center field. Tatis Jr. reached on a fielding error in the bottom of the fourth, giving Gavin Sheets the opportunity to come home for what proved to be the game-winning run.
Cristian Javier will get the start for the Astros on Sunday night, but the Padres have not yet made a decision on who will take the mound. Javier is currently 1-2 with a 6.59 ERA.
