Angelenos are feeling the squeeze with grocery and gas prices rising, but Culver CityBus is extending a helping hand with the LIFE Program
The Low Income Fare is Easy, or LIFE Program, provides qualifying L.A. County residents with 20 free rides each month on Metro or a discounted pass on another participating transit agency. This includes transit in Burbank, Santa Monica, Long Beach and many more.
Angelenos enrolled in CalFresh, EBT, Medi-Cal, Social Security, Social Security Disability, TANF, a reduced lunch program or SNAP all qualify, including those who live in L.A. County and whose household income falls within certain Culver CityBus limits. L.A. college and vocational students may also enjoy greater discounts through the program.
Approved applicants receive unlimited free rides for the first 90 days, followed by 20 free rides each month. Further, after the 20 free rides have been used, LIFE Program caps the fares of users: Free after three rides on one day or 11 rides in a week.
How does this help? On L.A. Metro, a regular price one-way ride is $1.75. Capped at $18 a week, that still makes for over $70 a month. For L.A. residents already on assistance programs who rely on transit to get to work, bring their kids to school and get groceries, that is money that could be spent elsewhere. The LIFE Program helps alleviate the cost and keep money in the pockets of Angelenos who need it most.
To apply, find the LIFE program application on the Culver CityBus or TAP website. A TAP card, a valid government-issued photo ID, and proof of income are required. Select a submission method (email, mail or at select in-person locations) and provide the collected documents.
For those already on a tight budget, the LIFE Culver Citybus program truly is a lifeline, giving low-income Angelenos the extra financial assistance that could make all the difference.
