Bee Day

Long Beach is buzzing with free family fun this August. 2ND & PCH is celebrating National Honey Bee Day on Saturday, August 15 with so many free activities like a pollinator scavenger hunt, honey giveaways, and friendship bracelet making.

Plus, they’re offering a chance to meet the beekeeper behind the coastal shopping center’s on-site hives. The celebration runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free to attend. It’s a particularly sweet stop for families looking for something to do in Long Beach this weekend.

Bee Day events

There will be plenty of ways to celebrate the hardworking pollinators at 2ND & PCH. Here’s what you can expect during the National Honey Bee Day festivities:

Meet The Beekeeper: From noon to 1 p.m., meet a professional beekeeper from The Best Bees Company and learn about pollinator conservation, biodiversity and the important role bees play in the ecosystem.

Pollinator Scavenger Hunt: From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., kids can explore 2ND & PCH while searching for bee-inspired facts hidden throughout the center. Complete the hunt to receive a special prize and an entry into a drawing for one of six gift cards.

Free Local Honey: Scavenger hunt participants can take home a limited supply of honey produced by the bees living in 2ND & PCH’s own on-site hives. The giveaway is available while supplies last.

BEE-FF Bracelet Making: Get crafty at the friendship bracelet station, where families and friends can make their own bee-themed bracelets together.

2ND & PCH has its own beehives

The event isn’t just about celebrating bees. 2ND & PCH actually has two working beehives on the property through its partnership with The Best Bees Company.

The hives produce approximately 10 to 20 pounds of honey each year, with the honey taking on a distinctive flavor from the flowers growing around the Long Beach coast. The hives are tucked away from busy areas to help keep both visitors and the bees safe.

The partnership also supports research into urban biodiversity. It’s part of 2ND & PCH’s broader environmental efforts, which include solar energy initiatives, recycling programs and community programming.

The event is weather permitting. For more information, visit 2ND & PCH.
