Picking up a drive-thru dinner to-go from Silvergate Rancho Bernardo on Tuesday, Aug. 18 is one way to help the retirement community raise money for Alzheimer’s San Diego.

Dinners must be ordered by this Saturday. There are two meal options.

The first is a Caesar salad, garlic bread, spaghetti bolognese and brownies. The second is a Caesar salad, fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans and brownies.

Both options are priced as dinner for one at $15, dinner for two at $30 or dinner for four at $50. Payment is cash or check payable to “Alzheimer’s San Diego.”

To place an order, call the front desk at 858-451-1100 by Aug. 15. Pick-up will be between 4 and 6 p.m. on Aug. 18 at the front lobby roundabout driveway, 16061 Avenida Venusto in Rancho Bernardo.

The drive-thru dinner is one of several events planned over eight weeks in August and September, culminating with Team Silvergate participating in Alzheimer’s San Diego Walk4ALZ starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 in Balboa Park.

The wider community is invited to walk with Team Silvergate and have any money walkers raise earmarked toward Silvergate’s goal of donating $20,000 to Alzheimer’s San Diego, said Christine Russell. She is the corporate director of marketing and communications for Silvergate’s parent company, AmeriCare Health & Retirement, Inc.

According to Russell, this is the first time all three Silvergate communities — in Rancho Bernardo, San Marcos and Fallbrook — will be uniting for a common fundraising event. She said the goal is to raise $10,000 through the campaign and Silvergate Retirement Residence will give a matching corporate contribution of up to $10,000.

“Our residents and their families understand firsthand the challenges that Alzheimer’s disease brings, making this cause especially meaningful to everyone at Silvergate,” said Jessica Swaaley, executive director of Silvergate Rancho Bernardo.

“These events are about much more than raising money — they’re about bringing people together with compassion, hope and purpose while supporting individuals and families who are navigating this difficult journey every day,” Swaaley said. “We encourage our neighbors throughout the community to join us in making a meaningful difference.”

In addition to the drive-thru dinner to-go, other events geared toward Silvergate residents and their families include a bingo open house, happy hour ice cream social, lemonade stand that incorporates residents’ children and grandchildren, a bake sale, dunk tank challenge and omelet breakfast bar served by department heads in costume.

Those in the wider community are also invited to contribute new and very gently used items for an upcoming unwanted gift brown bag sale, Russell said.

The sale will be held in Silvergate Rancho Bernardo’s lobby from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29. Donated items need to be turned in to the activity office by 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15.

“One of the wonderful things about this campaign is that every event creates opportunities for our residents to engage with their families, our staff and members of the local community while supporting an important cause,” said Trixie Prince, activities director at Silvergate Rancho Bernardo. “Whether someone purchases a dinner, enjoys a game of bingo, visits our bake sale or joins us at the walk in October, every act of participation helps provide hope for families affected by Alzheimer’s disease.”

Those who want to join the walk on Oct. 17 — whether they walk as part of Team Silvergate or on their own — will need to register at alzsd.org/walk. There is no entry fee, but walkers are encouraged to solicit monetary donations to support their participation, Prince said.

Anyone who would like to meet up with Team Silvergate is welcome to do so. Prince asked that they let her know by calling 858-451-1100 or emailing her at tprince@americarehr.com so she can tell them where the team’s meeting point at the walk will be.

According to Silvergate officials, nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, and that number is expected to rise significantly in the coming decades. All money raised will help fund Alzheimer’s San Diego’s local education, advocacy, support services and research programs. The campaign will also raise awareness of the impact Alzheimer’s disease has on thousands of families throughout the region.

Each Silvergate community has specialized Memory Care Suites for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

“As caregivers, we see every day how important connection, dignity and purpose are for individuals living with memory loss,” Swaaley said. “Supporting Alzheimer’s San Diego allows us to extend that commitment beyond our own residents and invest in resources that benefit families throughout our entire community.”
