PG&E urges customers to call 811 before digging

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Hitting a utility line during a home project can lead to some major damages.

PG&E is urging customers to call their 811 line before doing any kind of work that may involve digging.

Jason King with PG&E joined ARC Bakersfield to share what the community should know before they dig.

King says there were 35 incidents involving digging last year and there have been 25 so far in 2026.

He says the average cost of repairs during these types of incidents is as much as $3,500.

King says residents should call 811 two days before any project so professionals can mark all utility lines in the area.
