Bryan Brandes Long Beach appointment

The Port of Long Beach has appointed Bryan Brandes as Chief Commercial Officer and Managing Director of Commercial Operations, effective August 10.

Brandes brings more than 30 years of shipping and ports industry experience to the role, which oversees the port’s business services, customer relationships, data technology and business resiliency and security operations across four divisions: Business Development, Tenant Services, Information Management and Security.

Brandes joins from the Port of Oakland, where he served as Director of Maritime since 2020, leading all maritime operations, strategy and administration.

Prior to that he served as Director of US West Coast Operations for CMA CGM and spent two decades with Maersk and APM Terminals, rising to Director of California Inland Operations.

He holds an MBA from Claremont Graduate University and a Bachelor of Science from San Diego State University.

He replaces Casey Hehr, who was named the port’s Chief Administrative Officer in March 2026.

Port CEO Dr Noel Hacegaba described Brandes as a skilled and respected leader with a rare combination of deep supply chain and port authority experience, well positioned to strengthen the port’s commercial competitiveness as it works toward doubling container volumes to 20 million TEUs annually by 2050.

Harbor Commission President Steven Neal welcomed the appointment, expressing confidence that Brandes’s leadership will help the commercial team support the broader Port of the Future vision underpinned by US$ 3.3 billion in planned infrastructure investment over the next decade.
