FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Fresno news stations may have some new competition.
An online publication called “The Fresno Fig” came to life this summer.
Their stories date back to July and cover much of the same beats we do. Recently, they covered the Fresno Arts Council embezzlement and Fresno State’s first new dorms in 50 years, both of which we, too, have written.
However, there is an important twist.
Their articles are satirical.

Like “The Onion,” the Fresno Fig’s stories contain fictional events, invented quotations, and exaggerated claims for entertainment.
The authors of the articles are not named, but it appears all their photographers are AI.
