Twin Rivers school district celebrates new school buildings
The campus at Garden Valley Elementary was buzzing on Thursday morning. Not for back to school but for the opening of a new cafeteria, auditorium and administration building.
“I think when you have something like this it really leaves a lasting impact on students,” said school board member Emmanuel Amanfor.
For the past few years, the 11,000-square-foot building has been under construction at a cost of $17.8 million. Half of the money was paid for through a bond and the other half from facilities funding.
Enrollment is growing, and Amanfor says the school was running out of space.
“This is very necessary. The facility they had before where they were able to interact and do a lot of activities were literally two trailers put together,” Amanfor said. “But now they have the space, a cafeteria where they can get good food and a stage where they can put on presentations. It will be a quality experience for them.”
Not to be left out, the staff is thrilled as well. Part of the project also includes a 2,000-square-foot administration office which is set up as a more welcoming place to work with students and parents.
