FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. — A small plane registered in Redding made an emergency landing on a road in western Fresno County after an engine failure Thursday afternoon.
The Piper aircraft, a PA-140 built in 1969, landed on Jayne Avenue near Pleasant Valley State Prison after taking off from Harris Ranch Airport in Coalinga. The plane rolled to the side of the road after landing, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The aircraft was carrying Nancy Overton and her flight instructor, Ellysia Jackson, who were headed to compete in the Palms to Pines Air Race. Eric Marshall, Overton’s husband, said they had just taken off from Harris Ranch Airport when the engine failed. Jackson landed the plane safely, and neither woman was injured.
