A suspect with 10 warrants for his arrest was snagged Thursday after a hunt in Sausalito, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
The pursuit started at about 2 a.m. after a sheriff’s deputy saw a vehicle speeding on southbound Highway 101 near the Spencer Avenue exit, sheriff’s Lt. Brennan Collins said. The deputy tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver made a U-turn into the northbound lanes. Deputies later found the vehicle abandoned nearby.
Around 6:15 a.m., the sheriff’s office was notified about a pedestrian walking onto northbound Highway 101 in the area. The pedestrian ran from deputies into the neighborhood near the Spencer Avenue exit, Collins said.
Authorities issued a “shelter in place” notice for neighborhood during the search. Deputies found the suspect hiding in brush behind residences on Santa Rosa Avenue.
John Russell Edwards, 34, of Ukiah was arrested on suspicion of evasion, reckless driving, obstructing officers and disorderly conduct. He also was booked on the warrants, which involved a range of allegations that include drug crimes, firearms offenses, robbery, false imprisonment, burglary and conspiracy. The jurisdictions include San Francisco, San Jose and Clearlake.
