Deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department shot and killed a man after he allegedly opened fire on Southern California Edison employees near his home in Mentone Friday afternoon.

SCE employees were trimming trees on the 300 block of King Street around 10:50 a.m. when the man opened fire on the workers, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded to the alleged shooting and the man barricaded himself inside his home. Crisis negotiators with the sheriff’s department’s Specialized Enforcement Division attempted to talk the man into surrendering peacefully.

At around 2 p.m., the man allegedly started firing at deputies. Deputies returned gunfire, hitting and ultimately killing the man.

Paramedics attempted to revive the man. However, he was pronounced dead at his home. Watch footage of the scene recorded by Sky 5 in the video player at the top of this story.

Authorities have not identified the man killed in the shooting at this time. No deputies or innocent bystanders were injured during the shooting.
