CLOVIS, Calif. (FOX26) — Two suspects were arrested after a family disturbance in Clovis that ended with a shooting and two people injured on Wednesday, according to the Clovis Police Department.
Clovis police responded at 7:43 p.m. to a home in the 300 block of West Ashcroft after receiving several 911 calls reporting a shooting.
Officers found an adult male with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his upper body. The suspects had left the scene.
As information was relayed to the department’s Real-Time Information Center, both suspects were identified, and officers began searching for them while detectives and crime scene investigators responded to investigate.
Police also recovered the handgun used in the shooting.
Detectives arrested both suspects without incident on Thursday morning.
Police identified the shooting suspect as a 15-year-old boy from Fresno. He was booked into Fresno County’s Juvenile Justice Center on several felony allegations, including assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and domestic violence.
The second suspect was identified as 21-year-old Mayra Contreras of Fresno. She was booked into the Fresno County Jail on an allegation of assault with a deadly weapon.
Investigators said the shooting happened during a family disturbance after the 15-year-old arrived at the home with a handgun and tried to steal money from his ex-girlfriend.
During the physical disturbance, police said, he shot the adult male victim.
Investigators said Contreras also pistol-whipped an adult female with the same handgun before both suspects left in her car.
Police said the 15-year-old suspect’s mother called the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office the next morning to report her son had been shot in the wrist.
Investigators determined the teen accidentally shot himself during the disturbance when he shot the victim.
The 15-year-old suspect was treated for his gunshot wound.
