Peralta (2-2, 3.39 ERA) has turned in four scoreless innings across four stints as an opener. He is allowing lefties a .245/.333/.340 batting line and righties a .293/.343/.447 batting line.

Right-hander Randy Vásquez (8-6, 4.16 ERA) figures to get bulk innings today. He has a 2.05 ERA in 22 innings since returning from his ankle contusion. This would be Vásquez’s first career appearance against the Guardians.

Vásquez has history with two current Guardians:

OF Jo Adell (1-for-2)
1B Rhys Hoskins (0-for-1 BB)

The Padres (66-57) have won six in a row to maintain a one-game lead over the Phillies (65-58) and the Diamondbacks (65-58) in the race for the NL’s second and third wild-card spots.

Fangraphs pegs the Padres playoff odds at 63.1%.

Left-hander Joey Cantillo (8-7, 3.91 ERA) will start for the Guardians.

Padres drafted Cantillo out of Kailua High School (Ha.) in 2017 and included him in the package that netted Mike Clevinger in 2020. Cantillo, 26, has a 3.80 ERA in 253⅔ IP since making his debut in 2024 and has thrown a career-high 119⅔ innings this year. His only history with the team that drafted him was throwing two innings last year in relief (2 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BBs, 1 K).
