(FOX40.COM) — The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community of scams where the callers are pretending to be with the sheriff’s office.

SCSO said the sheriff’s office has received an increase in reports of scammers calling community members and using real names and titles from SCSO. The scammers claim to be employees and attempt to gather personal information or intimidate victims into sending money.

According to SCSO, they might threaten victims with warrants if payments are not made.

“It’s important to exercise caution, as these fraudulent calls may display a caller ID that appears to be from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, or come from a ‘NO CALLER ID,'” SCSO said.

Those who receive a scam call are asked not to share personal information and hang up before contacting SCSO’s non-emergency line at 916-874-5115.
