A slab of bacon prepared and cured by Kierstyn Lawson of California, Missouri, received recognition as the Reserve Grand Champion Youth Bacon during judging Thursday at the Missouri State Fair.
Lawson, a member of the California FFA Chapter, is the daughter of Jason and Stephanie Lawson.
The grand champion bacon was cured by a Madelynn Charlton of Bowling Green.
Charlton and Lawson agreed to sell their bacons during the Missouri State Fair Best of Missouri Awards and Sale, which will be held Saturday. Proceeds from the sale benefit both the winning exhibitors and the Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture Scholarship Program.
The awards will be held at 10:30 a.m., while the sale will begin at 11:15 a.m. in Lowell Mohler Assembly Hall. The auction will be broadcast live online by KMMO radio. The auction will be aired live on the Missouri State Fair Livestock and building Exhibitors’ Facebook page.
