Two teenagers were killed in a three-car hit-and-run crash in Victorville on Friday, officials said.
The collision happened near Elmwood Drive and Ridgecrest Road around 8:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Investigators say a yellow Chevrolet Camaro and a black Dodge Charger were traveling at “high rates of speed” northbound on Ridgecrest Road when a green Acura TL pulled out to make a left turn, prompting a three-car crash.
The Acura’s driver, identified as 17-year-old Maddalyn Dailey from Victorville, and a 16-year-old passenger from Hesperia died at the scene, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner. The 16-year-old’s name has not yet been released.
The CHP said the driver of the Chevrolet ran away, while the driver of the Dodge stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
It’s unclear if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
“The CHP extends its condolences to the family and friends of those who lost their lives in this tragic crash,” Capt. Cameron Broyles, commander of CHP’s Victorville Area, said in a statement.
