For the next 12 days, dinner at a cheese shop on West Green Street and dinner at a steakhouse on North Los Robles Avenue sit in the same price bracket: $65 and above, whatever the restaurant put on its Dine LA card.
Twenty-six Pasadena restaurants are serving fixed-price menus in the summer edition of Dine LA Restaurant Week, which began Friday, August 14 and runs through Friday, August 28. That is 26 of the 57 restaurants participating across the entire San Gabriel Valley — nearly half the region’s participation concentrated in one city. Menus here start at $25 and climb to $65 and above, before beverages, tax and gratuity. No ticket or pass is required, and this summer the program is dine-in only.
No Altadena restaurants are on this summer’s lineup. For diners there, the nearest participating kitchens are down the hill in Pasadena.
Los Angeles Tourism produces the promotion twice a year. In a July 16 press release, the agency put the countywide lineup at more than 400 restaurants across 84 neighborhoods. By August 12, Patch reported more than 500 restaurants across 89 neighborhoods and cities, attributing the figures to Dine LA. Restaurants and menus are added daily, according to Dine LA, and the Pasadena lineup can change during the run.
That lineup runs long and wide. Agnes Restaurant and Cheesery, Alexander’s Steakhouse, All India Cafe, Bodegon No. 69, Bone Kettle, Cafe Santorini, Fishwives, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse, Gaucho Grill, Granville, Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ, Kaviar Sushi Bar, Maestro Restaurant, Malbec Argentinian Cuisine, Mama M Sushi, Marina Pasadena, Mills Alley, Nha Trang Vietnamese Cuisine, Perle Restaurant, Pez Coastal Kitchen, Star Leaf, Sushi Roku, The Raymond 1886, Urban Pocha and Yakiya are all participating. Seventeen cuisine categories are represented, and 20 of the 26 offer outdoor dining.
The floor is higher in Pasadena than it is countywide. The program’s lowest tier is $15, but no Pasadena restaurant is offering one. The cheapest entry point here is $25, at lunch at All India Cafe, Granville, Gyu-Kaku, Nha Trang, Star Leaf and Urban Pocha. Nha Trang is the only Pasadena restaurant serving a $25 dinner. At the other end, Agnes Restaurant and Cheesery, 40 West Green Street, serves a $35 lunch and a $65-and-above dinner, while Alexander’s Steakhouse, 111 North Los Robles Avenue, serves dinner only at $65 and above.
Stacey Sun, executive director of Dine LA, said in the press release that the program offers a chance to experience “the creativity, culture, and hospitality that define Los Angeles’ dining scene.”
Fourteen Old Pasadena restaurants took part in the winter edition, which ran January 23 to February 6, according to the Old Pasadena Management District. The district says it is home to more than 100 restaurants.
Twelve days remain. The cheese shop and the steakhouse will both be open.
