Tee Up for Health Raises $22,550 for Women’s and Children’s Health: Johnson and Johnson twosome takes top honors as community rallies for Long Beach Clinic

ILWACO — Ocean Beach Health Foundation (OBHF) hosted its Tee Up for Health golf tournament at Peninsula Golf Course in Long Beach on Friday, July 31, under sunny skies.

The tournament brought together community members, visitors, businesses, and supporters for a day of friendly competition in support of women’s and children’s health care, raising $22,550 for the Ocean Beach Health Long Beach Clinic.

Forty golfers took part in the two-person scramble tournament, which kicked off with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Before play began, players enjoyed a warm welcome from Foundation trustees, coffee and muffins, while picking up swag bags, entering raffles, and buying charity cheats — mulligans, strings and more — that kept the competition fun. Before teeing up on the 10th hole, players munched on deli sandwiches in a box lunch prepared by The Cove. After completing 18 holes, players were treated to ice cream floats, homemade cookies, and refreshments. Raffle drawings, a ball drop, the tallying of the leaderboard, and the announcement of the winners capped off the benefit.

Players kept their hopes high on the 4th hole, where a tee shot could have won the $10,000 hole-in-one prize. Better luck next year.

Tom and Heather Johnson, a standout twosome from Portland and longtime visitors to Ocean Park, placed first. The couple also won the longest drive and closest-to-the-hole contests.

The tournament was made possible by more than 20 sponsors, with major support from KeyBank, Ocean Beach Health vendors, and our many local sponsors (Horizon Title Group, Adrift Hospitality, Bank of the Pacific, Crisis Support Network, Ford Electric, Great Northwest FCU, Jack’s Country Store, Lighthouse Realty, Lum’s Auto Center, Oman and Son, Peninsula Pharmacies, Sid’s Market, Wilcox & Flegel and WWest).

What’s next

Momentum from the golf benefit carries straight into a busy fall for OBHF, with finish-line raffles at Slow Drag on Sept. 11, another raffle on September 19 at Dog-o-Rama, and two annual fundraisers: “Bid, Brushes and Bites” live auction on September 28 and the ever-popular Online Auction, Oct. 5 to 15. All proceeds will benefit the Foundation’s soon-to-be-announced next big campaign.
