BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A prominent sergeant with the Bakersfield Police Department’s Robbery and Homicide Unit will soon be joining the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.
Robert Pair will start his tenure as the Chief of Bureau of Investigations with the DA’s office on Oct. 5, following the retirement of current chief, Randall Meyer.
Meyer’s last day with the office will be Oct. 3, after 25 years servicing the Kern County community.
In his new role, Pair will lead the office’s Bureau of Investigations, overseeing more than 50 employees and 32 peace officers.
“I’m honored and humbled to be selected to serve as the Chief of the Bureau of Investigations,” Pair said in a statement on Monday. “I look forward to serving the Kern County community with integrity and professionalism and continuing the exceptional work of the District Attorney’s Office investigators and staff.”
The Bureau conducts independent investigations for various cases, including public assistance fraud, public integrity cases, environmental enforcement and election fraud in the county, the DA’s office said.
Before working in the Robbery and Homicide Department, Pair held roles in BPD’s Special Enforcement/Gang Unit and as the department’s public information officer. The DA also said that he has served as a federally deputized Task Force Officer with both the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
In the statement, District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer said that Sergeant Pair is “an outstanding law enforcement official,” and that she as worked with in the past.
“It is my pleasure to appoint Sergeant Pair to this role, and I have full confidence that he will continue to provide invaluable leadership and expertise in this new position that is vital to the successful prosecution of criminal cases,” she said.
