Move over, Southern California. Commuters have voted the western approach onto the Bay Bridge as the most frustrating commute in the state. In fact, a recent poll found that workers were willing to forgo thousands in salary to avoid this thoroughfare altogether.
The survey of 3,017 workers by Resume.io asked commuters to put a dollar amount on escaping regular gridlock to work. The MacArthur Maze and Bay Bridge, connecting I-80/I-580 from Oakland to San Francisco, garnered the highest amount at $3,220.Beyond what workers are already spending on commuting, they said they would be willing to give up this amount of their annual salary to avoid this trip altogether.
Ranking second was US-101, the Hollywood Freeway in Los Angeles, at $3,112. This route connects the San Fernando Valley, Hollywood, and central Los Angeles. Third was the I-405 through Sepulveda Pass in Los Angeles at $3,004, which spans the San Fernando Valley and the Westside of Los Angeles.
The study, which also spanned nationwide, found that nearly half of respondents have rejected a job because of the trek to work. Some 46 percent said they had previously turned down a job because the commute was too long or difficult. Finally, a third of respondents cited stress or anxiety as the highest cost of their commute.
