Southern Californians do encounter cinema-ready locations from time to time, with backlots, temporary sets, and easy-up, easy-down structures adding movie-inspired atmosphere to our region.
But there is a storied spot that boasts buildings that regally rose in another era, the Victorian homes, and occasional church, that feel stately and solid and, yes, a bit spooky.
It’s Heritage Square Museum, just off the Arroyo Parkway, the historical park that has a way of whisking a person back to an earlier century, at least for an afternoon.
But it if is a Friday or Saturday evening around Halloween, a different and haunting side of Heritage Square emerges, all to give film fans some cinematic thrills.
In 2026, those thrills will rise over four October nights when Street Food Cinema’s 4th Annual Boo-ze, Bites & Frights brings new and classic horror movies to the park for outdoor screenings and other peculiar pursuits.
The four nights are made for the 21-and-up set, so, for sure, adult beverages themed to the movies, and the season, will be for sale.

Street Food Cinema’s pre-Halloween happenings, created for 21-and-up guests, return to Heritage Square for four October nights in 2026.
But it isn’t all grown-up in spirit: Trick-or-treating, an activity typically reserved for the youngsters, will also take place, giving revelers the opportunity to go house-to-house in search of treats.
A marketplace brimming with Halloween-themed goods, tours of the Victorian homes, street food for sale, characters in costume, themed backdrops, and “haunted pathways” will add to the otherworldly aura.
As will the movies: Each night will offer a double feature, with “Obsession” and “Companion” up first on Oct. 16.
“A Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare” — Bloody Disgusting, the horror-smart outfit, will present — are the Oct. 17 films.
“Sinners” and “Blades” summon vampiric vibes on Oct. 23, and “Jennifer’s Body” and “Bodies, Bodies, Bodies” rounds out the series Oct. 24.
Creative, movie-cool costumes will most definitely be worn by many in attendance, and prizes are at stake for those donning their dastardly best.
Keep in mind that parking is separate from your ticket, and there is a VIP option, if that tempts.
