A 35-year-old Bakersfield man was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Orange County early Sunday morning, authorities say.  

According to the Santa Ana Police Department, multiple calls regarding a pedestrian who had been struck at the intersection of Warner Avenue and Yale Street in Santa Ana around 4:53 a.m. 

First responders rushed to the scene and found the pedestrian lying in the roadway with “significant” injuries, SAPD said in a media release issued early Monday afternoon.  

The victim, identified as 35-year-old Esteban Ramon Renterian of Bakersfield, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead despite lifesaving measures.   

“Based on the preliminary investigation, Renterian was crossing southbound on Warner Ave. outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound,” Santa Ana police said. “The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, cooperated with the investigation and did not appear to be impaired.”
