FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A man was arrested after crashing into a home, and a gun was discovered in the car on Friday night, police say.
Fresno Police officers observed a silver SUV traveling without headlights in the area of East Clinton Avenue and North Angus Street a bit after 10:30 p.m.
The SUV also drove through a red light nearby.
Officers tried to catch up but lost sight of the SUV after it turned south onto a nearby street.
A short time later, officers found the SUV had collided with a home in the 3900 block of East Clinton Avenue.
Police said the driver, later identified as Valentin Viera, was seen crawling out of the front passenger side of the vehicle and then fleeing south on North 9th Street.
An officer chased Viera on foot and detained him a short distance away.
Viera was placed in handcuffs and escorted back to the officer’s patrol vehicle.
Officers who stayed with the SUV reported seeing an AR-style rifle with a 10-inch barrel and a high-capacity magazine in plain view.
The rifle was unsecured and resting on the rear passenger-side seat.
Officers found one live round in the chamber and 38 live .223 rounds inside the magazine.
