BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Three people were killed, and three others were hurt in a fiery three-vehicle wrong-way crash on southbound Highway 99 near 7th Standard Road early Sunday morning.
The California Highway Patrol said on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at around 12:44 a.m., officers responded to a three-vehicle wrong-way crash on southbound Highway 99, north of 7th Standard Road.
CHP said the crash involved a 2022 Honda Accord driven by an unidentified female, a white 2019 BMW 530i driven by a 44-year-old man, and a white 2022 Chevrolet Colorado, driven by a 41-year-old woman.
CHP said investigators are currently looking into which vehicle was driving the wrong way.
As a result of the crash, the Honda immediately became engulfed in flames, and all three occupants inside died, according to CHP.

The driver and solo occupant of the BMW sustained severe injuries and the two people in the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries from the crash.

Southbound Highway 99 was momentarily closed with a detour in place.
CHP said it is unknown if the use of alcohol and or drugs were a factor in this crash.
