Fire crews were extinguishing hot spots and building containment lines around a brush fire in the Campo area on Tuesday that briefly prompted evacuations Monday.
Fire officials said the blaze, dubbed the Church 2 fire, charred around 138 acres of brush after sparking around 2 p.m. on Church Road, south of Old Highway 80 near Live Oak Springs. Firefighters reported the fire 60% contained as of Tuesday morning.
Around 150 fire personnel were working the fire Tuesday, down from more than 180 the previous day, said Cal Fire Capt. Josh Cormode. Residents were allowed to return to their homes after evacuation orders were lifted Monday evening. No injuries were reported and an old travel trailer was damaged in the fire, Cormode said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
