FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — The votes are in, and Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s first-ever Malayan tapir calf officially has a name: Winston.
The six-week-old calf received his name after more than 4,000 community votes were cast between three choices: Ube, Winston and Winchester.
Winston was born July 11 to mother Ulan and father William, marking the first Malayan tapir birth in the zoo’s history.
Winston and his mother will continue with bonding.
The zoo says it will announce when the pair is ready to make its public debut in the Kingdoms of Asia habitat.
