A slab of bacon prepared and cured by Kierstyn Lawson of California, Missouri, received recognition as the Reserve Grand Champion Youth Bacon during judging Thursday at the Missouri State Fair.
Lawson, a member of the California FFA Chapter, is the daughter of Jason and Stephanie Lawson.
The grand champion bacon was cured by a Madelynn Charlton of Bowling Green.
Charlton and Lawson agreed to sell their bacons during the Missouri State Fair Best of Missouri Awards and Sale, which was held Saturday. Proceeds from the sale benefit both the winning exhibitors and the Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture Scholarship Program.
