Fresno police searched the home of a Madera Unified employee after she allegedly made a video calling for a “Black militia” to “rob some White people” — and the school district is adding safety measures in the wake of the controversy.
Fresno police spokesperson Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega confirmed that officers are aware of the video and made contact with the employee, whom Trueba Vega did not identify Monday. Police also searched the home and did not find any guns.
Investigators are exploring whether any laws were violated, Trueba Vega said.
Madera Unified in a social media post over the weekend said it was working with multiple law enforcement agencies and it initiated a temporary restraining order against the employee, who was placed on leave during the investigation.
The district also noted that security would be increased at Lincoln Elementary, the site where the employee worked, on Monday. Madera Unified also said long-term safety measures were being put in placed, though the district didn’t delve into specifics in the post.
The comment section beneath the district’s post was filled with community members’ questions. The district later turned off comments.
In a statement to The Bee, Madera Unified spokesperson George Garnica said the district couldn’t discuss the individual involved, as the situation is a confidential personnel matter.
Garnica said the district had three additional Madera Police Department officers keep watch over Lincoln Elementary, along with the district’s Safety Resource Officer and additional safety personnel after school.
School operations continued without disruption, and Garnica said the safety plan at Lincoln Elementary was being re-evaluated, along with a safety inspection that ensured all safety equipment and communication tools are functioning.
The district is communicating with families impacted by the situation on ParentSquare, Garnica said.
