A “mural” was spray-painted at the very top of a 12-story condominium building in San Francisco.
The tag stretches down almost four floors, on the side of an art deco tower on Vallejo Street; in large street art style letters, it spells “Joshua” and “Neme”.
At the top, the words “We own ur city now” can be read. At the bottom, the graffiti included the words “Eo4” and “Taipei 2 the Bay”.
According to a Montreal-based graffiti website called Bombing Science, Eo4 is a Taipei-based tagging group.
In a published interview with one of the group’s members, who calls himself Josh or Joshua, he says the group specializes in high altitude rappel tagging.
Meanwhile, neighbors of the building are surprised by the scale of the graffiti, saying it happened overnight a couple weeks ago.
“I don’t know who these people are and, it’s a fast job. There’s a lot of real estate on that side. You can’t hear it somehow, in the dark as well,” SF resident Lucia Choi-Dalton said.
According to San Francisco police, the tagging was reported as vandalism on Aug. 6. The manager of the building says they’re currently figuring out next steps in dealing with the massive mural.
According to Supervisor Steven Sherrill’s Office, the police are currently reviewing security camera video. In a prepared statement he said, in part, “Not only are these jerks destroying property, but their actions are also shockingly dangerous.”
A spokesperson for the Department of Public Works says if an inspector comes out to tag this property for the graffiti, the owners will need to remove it within 30 days.
One neighbor wondered how much it would cost to paint over it.
“They should ask the guys who graffitied it to paint it. They know what they’re doing,” Eric McDowell said.
San Francisco police note that they’ve have arrested a few prolific taggers in recent years, including one who pleaded guilty to a felony vandalism charge.
