FLETCHER, Okla. (KSWO) – A Fletcher teacher is leaving her post as an educator to help others in a different setting.
A reservist in the United States Coast Guard, Ms. Nita Whitman is being deployed on a mission to California to assist Port Security Units with training and deployment operations.
Her students and fellow staff members gathered Wednesday to give her a proper sendoff, celebrating her service to our country, as well as her time in Fletcher.
“Miss Whitman is living proof of just the kind of citizen that we want to produce: the selflessness, the sacrifice, the commitment to not only her students but her country. It’s exactly what we’re trying to instill in every Wildcat.”
Ms. Whitman has been a member of the Coast Guard since 2000.
For her part, she says she is proud to assist and support during critical relief efforts.
