CHICO, Calif. — Butte County Search and Rescue held its annual combined training exercises over the past week, focusing on water and technical rope rescue scenarios.
According to BCSAR, the organization conducted Air Ops, Swiftwater and Marine training on the Sacramento River over the weekend. Helicopter Rescue Technicians practiced various water rescue scenarios, including picks from strainers and simulated victims in the water, on boats and along the shoreline.
The team also trained on the strainer that caught nine tubers last year. On Tuesday, the Technical Ropes Team practiced over-the-edge rescues in Upper Park with simulated victims.
The exercises focused on building muscle memory and team coordination as daylight faded. As an all-volunteer team, BCSAR relies on community donations to maintain training, equipment, and readiness.
