This weekend, another edition of the popular free outdoor movie series Sundown Cinema is returning to an SF park. The free movie series is back this Friday, August 21, this time at a scenic waterfront park. Here’s what to know about the free screening.

This month’s edition of Sundown Cinema will take place at Marina Green, with a screening of The Parent Trap. The screening will start after sunset, typically around 8 pm, although we recommend getting there early to find a good spot on the lawn. We recommend bringing a picnic blanket and some warm layers to stay comfortable during the movie. You can also expect some food trucks in the area, perfect for a mid-movie snack.
The Parent Trap is a beloved rom-com featuring a young Lindsay Lohan, who stars as twins Annie and Hallie. The movie debuted in 1998 and quickly became a classic family movie.
The free movie series returned for 2026 this June, after a brief hiatus last summer. If you can’t make this weekend’s movie, there are still two more screenings to look forward to this year. The September screening will take place at the Ferry Building, showing the classic comedy School of Rock. For the final Sundown Cinema of the year, you can head to Crane Cove Park this October to see Beetlejuice, perfect for getting into the Halloween spirit.
Check out the free screening this Friday, August 21, at Marina Green. No tickets are necessary, and the event is open to all ages. We recommend taking public transit to the park, as parking may be difficult to find nearby.
