A new trade proposal has emerged this week that would send a former first round pick to the Vancouver Canucks, with the club’s search for a suitable second line center option ongoing.

Since the start of the offseason, the Vancouver Canucks have been on the look out for some center help, especially on the second line, and despite making offers to land players such as Marco Rossi, General Manager Patrik Allvin hasn’t been able to acquire a suitable option for the role once held by J.T. Miller.

Ideally, the Vancouver Canucks will be able to someone that can make an impact either in a second or third line role, allowing Lukas Reichel to play on the wing, where he’ll likely be more engaged in the play from an offensive standpoint and on Thursday, a trade proposal emerged that would see Patrik Allvin acquire a former first round pick from a division rival.

In a recent article for Heavy.com, Michael DeRosa suggested a trade that would see the Vancouver Canucks acquire former first round pick Alexander Wennberg from the San Jose Sharks, with the team retaining 50 percent of his remaining salary, in exchange for Latvian centerman Teddy Blueger and a second round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.Canucks Get:

Wennberg, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, is in the final year of his contract which comes with a $5 million annual salary and to the surprise of no one at this point given how aggressive Patrik Allvin has been, has reportedly been asked about in talks with the Vancouver Canucks.”According to various reports, the Canucks have inquired on the availability of San Jose Sharks centre Alex Wennberg, who is in the final year of his contract and comes with a $5 million cap hit.

While a move is not yet believed to be imminent, Canucks GM Patrik Allvin is scouring the market for help at the dot and Wennberg is considered an option, though he is not the only player the Canucks are believed to have checked in on.” The Fourth Period’s article said in late October.

The 31-year-old pending UFA has put up nine points (three goals, six assists), no penalty minutes and is a minus-three in 14 games for the San Jose Sharks this season and is poised to be one of the top names available ahead of the March 6th trade deadline, however, there’s a very good chance he’s moved by the club well ahead of then, potentially as early as late December, before the NHL’s Holiday Roster Freeze goes into effect.
