Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrey Haden has been found dead in the San Diego federal building.

According to police he was found Wednesday night inside a vacant office.

Foul play is not suspected and it’s believed he took his own life. Haden served twice as acting U.S. attorney for the southern District of California. The 48-year old was a father to two school-aged children and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Southern District U.S. Attorney Adam Gordon confirmed Haden’s death in a statement shared with the San Diego Union-Tribune. “This is one of the darkest days in our office’s history, but there was nothing dark about Andrew Haden’s life,” Gordon said. “He was a beacon of light — full of laughter, friendship, integrity and unwavering commitment to serving our community.

“We will honor his life and legacy by carrying his light forward, today and always.”
