FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A Fresno County Senior Deputy District Attorney was stabbed in Courthouse Park outside of the Fresno County Courthouse in downtown Fresno on Thursday.
It happened just after 1 p.m. near the Law Enforcement Memorial.
The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Dustin Crawford of Fresno, ran from the scene but was captured a couple of blocks away at the intersection of Fresno Street and Van Ness Blvd. by Fresno County sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies say they had to use a Taser to take him into custody. A weapon was also taken from him.
Crawford was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
He faces charges of attempted murder and attempted murder of a public official.
He is in the Fresno County Jail with a bail set at $1 million. The sheriff’s office says he has a criminal history, including serving time in a state prison.
In a statement Fresno County District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp says:
“We are outraged and deeply saddened by the brazen stabbing of one of our Senior Deputy District Attorneys this afternoon in Courthouse Park.”
She went on to say:
There is no place in our community for violence against those who serve it.
The Sheriff’s Office and MAGEC are actively investigating this incident and working to determine the motive.
The victim was treated and released from the hospital.
Out of respect for the man and his family, his identity will not be released.
