BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Police Department received a citywide broadcast on Thursday night regarding a vehicle pursuit initiated by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.
BPD said the report came in around 8:50 p.m. in the area of West Columbus and King Aurther Court.
About 20 minutes later, BPD patrol officers near the 3300 block of Panama Street attempted to pull over a vehicle for a traffic enforcement stop, identifying the vehicle as the same vehicle the Sheriff’s Office was pursuing.
BPD said the suspect did not yield to officers, leading law enforcement on a pursuit that was later terminated for public safety reasons.
Officials said the suspect, 29-year-old Inocente Chavez, collided with another vehicle at the corner of California Avenue and L Street, before fleeing on foot.
BPD said he was apprehended shortly after.
The three people occupying the vehicle Chavez hit suffered “minor to moderate” injuries, officials said.
BPD officers arrested Chavez for evading officers, a hit-and-run causing an injury and for a DUI charge. He has been booked into the Kern County Lerdo Jail.
