The Pittsburgh Pirates look to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday in what has been a close series so far.
The Los Angeles Dodgers go for their second consecutive sweep when they face-off for the final time against the Pittsburgh Pirates this season on Sunday afternoon. The Dodgers swept the Colorado Rockies on the road this week and they won the first two games of this series over the weekend. But both games have been decided by a single run. LA won the opener, 5-4, in 10 innings, and then they won the series with a 4-3 win on Saturday. The Dodgers are going for their 80th victory today with a 79-51 record and a 39-26 mark at home. Los Angeles has now won the season series after the Game 2 victory and now leads Pittsburgh 4-1 going into this finale. Time is running out for the Pirates, who are still trying to stay alive in the National League Wild Card race. Pittsburgh is 63-68 with a 29-36 road record and is 7.5 games back of the third and final NL Wild Card slot, held by the San Diego Padres.

LA will start Blake Snell in the finale, and with only 15 innings under his belt this season, the lefty veteran is 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA. The Pirates will start Lake Bachar, who has a 1-2 record with a 3.75 ERA.
Tarik Skubal easily had his best start for the Dodgers on Saturday, after being traded from the Detroit Tigers, in Game 2 on Saturday. Skubal struck out 11 batters and improved to 8-7 on the season after going seven innings while giving up three runs on five hits. All of those runs came in the first inning, highlighted by a two-RBI triple from Oneill Cruz. But Pittsburgh couldn’t score the rest of the game. That gave the Dodgers plenty of time to come back and win their ninth game in their last 12 matchups. LA scored off two RBI singles from Teoscar Hernandez and Alek Thomas in the fourth, and then the struggling Kyle Tucker had a brighter day when he drove in two more on a single in the fifth inning. The Pirates were only able to get one more hit after Skubal left the game to halt any type of comeback.
