Logan O’Hoppe apparently seems very pleased to be out of Anaheim.
The Texas Rangers catcher O’Hoppe addressed reporters this week after being promoted to the MLB roster. During his media session, O’Hoppe spoke negatively about his time with the Los Angeles Angels, his old team.
“I didn’t like the dude in the mirror on or off the field,” said O’Hoppe, per Rangers Nation. “It was the hardest four years of my baseball life over there. It taught me a lot, and I’m really grateful for that.”
O’Hoppe, 26, spent the first four-and-a-half seasons of his MLB career with the Angels. He peaked in 2024 with 20 home runs and 56 RBIs but regressed badly after that, batting a lousy .209 with four home runs and 23 RBIs this season before finally getting traded to the Rangers in late July.
The Angels also experienced a whole lot of losing during O’Hoppe’s time there. Now the owners of MLB’s longest active playoff drought, the Angels have not even produced a single winning season since 2015 and are now 52-79 this season (second-worst in the American League).
On top of that, the Angels have dealt with plenty of organizational dysfunction in recent years. Among many other issues, the franchise has experienced embarrassing cost-cutting measures, some very ill-fated free agent additions, and even rodent infestations in their home stadium.
