(Inside California Politics) — With just a few months left in his final term as governor, Gavin Newsom is getting a head start on his way out of Sacramento.
On Monday, the Fair Oaks home owned by the governor and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, was listed for $7.5 million. The gated property sits on 8.2 acres atop the bluffs overlooking the American River.
The governor’s office confirmed the listing to Inside California Politics.
The family purchased the home for $3.7 million during his first term, an about-face from an earlier decision to live in the historic governor’s mansion in Midtown.
According to the real estate listing, the Santa Barbara-style mansion spans 12,663 square feet, along with a pool, tennis court and 5,000-bottle wine cellar.
“Some homes are beautiful in photographs, but this is one you truly have to see with your own eyes,” the listing states.
In 2021, Newsom sold his Bay Area home for $5.9 million, KRON reported at the time.
“With the Governor’s term ending in January 2027, the family began a gradual transition in 2024, purchasing a home in Marin County to provide continuity for their children’s education,” a spokesperson told Inside California Politics. “The sale of their Sacramento home is the next step in that transition.”
Newsom wasn’t the first governor to split time between Sacramento and another home, following in the footsteps of governors Jerry Brown and Arnold Schwarzenegger, who spent time in Oakland and Los Angeles, respectively.
Newsom, who leaves office at the end of the year, is widely expected to launch a campaign in the 2028 Democratic presidential primary.
