Police officers in Tustin shot and killed an armed man who charged at them during a response to a call of a homicide, the department said on Monday.
Officers were called to a home on the 1400 block of Walnut Avenue just after 2:30 p.m. Monday for a call of a domestic incident that was escalated to a possible homicide, the Tustin Police Department said. There, they encountered a man and an unresponsive woman on the ground inside the home.
According to police, the man charged at the officers with a knife in hand, prompting them to open fire. Despite receiving medical attention at the scene, the man ultimately died of his injuries, Tustin police said.
The unresponsive woman at the scene was lifeless and may have been dead for what police described as “some time” before their arrival.
Further details on the woman, such as her identity, age and cause of death, were not disclosed. It’s unclear if she and the man had any relationship to one another.
The Tustin Police Department did not release the name of the man. The shooting is under investigation by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office as per protocol.
